Acid reflux presents itself as a burning sensation in the chest and throat region and is caused due to acid rising up from the stomach. The most common cause of acid reflux is improper diet. But other factors can also cause stomach acid to rise up and give a burning sensation. These include and are not limited to over-eating which distends the stomach lining, smoking, hernia, obesity, side-effect for certain medications. In some cases, exercise can also trigger reflux due to increased abdominal pressure. Over-thinking and anxiety are also observed to cause a similar burning sensation in the stomach and throat.
