  • It is a pathological condition of the eye characterized by more than one pupillary opening in the iris. It is a very rare condition.
  • Causes : It is often congenital. Conditions that are associated with polycoria include:
    • Detached retina
    • Polar cataracts
    • Glaucoma
    • Abnormal development of pupil margins
    • Abnormal eye development
  • Symptoms :
    • Blurred vision in the affected eye
    • Poor, dim and double vision
    • Oblong shape of the additional pupils
    • Iris tissue bridge between the pupils
  • Pupilloplasty is the only treatment option available but its success is not guaranteed.
