Nocardia is also known as nocardiosis. Nocardia is a bacterial infection caused by Nocardia bacteria. These bacteria attack on the lungs, brain, and skin.

  • Cause:-The people with low immune systems get this bacterial infection. The outbreak of the nocardiosis occurs in low immunity people, or people who have connective tissue disorder, malignancy, bone marrow transplantation or organ transplantation, HIV/AIDS.
  • Symptoms: – Fever, cough, and chest pain are the symptoms of lung Nocardia. Headache, lethargy, confusion seizures and neurological problems are the symptoms of brain Nocardia.
  • Treatment:-The Diagnosis of Nocardia is not so easy. Most of the uncomplicated Nocardia pneumonia is fatal. The fatality rate is increased when an infection is increased. For the treatment of Nocardia long term antibiotic therapy is used for 6 to 12 months. An antimicrobial combination like Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole is used to treat Nocardia.
