Excisional biopsy puts scars on the breast and cause noticeable changes in the breast shape and size. Patient must have to discuss all procedure and size of incision with the surgeon.
- Uses: – Breast biopsy is useful for the diagnosis of cancer, removal of lymph nodes and treatment for cancer.
- Procedure: – Before starting procedure surgeon may do mammography to fine abnormal area in the breast. Surgeon numbs the area by using local or general anesthesia. Before starting procedure wire localization procedure carried out, it helps to detect the abnormal area. Breast ultrasound or mammogram is used to guide the procedure. The area in mammogram and the found area is match then biopsy procedure is conducted.
- Advantages: – excisional breast biopsy is useful in the treatment tumor treatment.
- Disadvantages: – It needs more time for healing, high risk of infection and bruising.
