Percutaneous Transhepatic cholangiography is a method used for the diagnosis of bile duct cancer. In this method Dye injected into the biliary system to identify the dilatation and blockages present in the bile duct by the help of x-ray.

Procedure: – PTCA is used to take pictures of bile duct. PTCA gives clear images which help to differentiate blockages, stone and cancerous cells. In PTCA small needle is inserted into the liver and reached to the bile duct and radio opaque dye is inserted into the biliary system and images are taken.

Complications: – Infection and bleeding are the main complication of PTCA. Dye insertion may cause bile leakage. Sometimes iodine dye may cause allergic reaction to the patient.
