Pluripotent stem cells are adult stem cells with characteristics those of embryonic stem cells. These stem cells have the proliferation and differentiation capabilities that are helpful in drug testing as well as in the study and treatment of various diseases. The cells are collected from the body and are treated in vitro, which later get implanted in the body. Since they are one’s own cells, the body does not characterise them as foreign body and does not produce any severe immune sacrificing reactions.
Pluripotent stem cell therapies are applied in various medical fields like the treatment for certain cardiac diseases, ophthalmic diseases concerning the retina, neurological disorders like Parkinson’s or Spinal Cord Injury, Diabetes and a few Blood related conditions.
