Cystoscopy allows the doctor to examine your bladder walls and urethra. The test is performed under local anaesthesia usually to numb the urethra. A hollow tube with camera at one of its ends is inserted in the urethra, slowly up to the bladder. It is performed to investigate Urinary Tract Infections, to diagnose bladder diseases, or also to diagnose an enlarged prostate. The procedure is simple, and you can go home the same day itself.

Before the procedure, you are asked to empty your bladder and you may also be prescribed antibiotics for any infections. Doctor may also take tissue samples for testing for cancer. After the procedure you might see pink urine and feel a burning sensation while urinating. The frequency of urination may also be increased for the next couple of days. There are also certain risks associated with the procedure like infection, bleeding or pain in the abdomen.
