Vaginitis, or vulvovaginitis, is a medical condition which involves the inflammation or infection in the vagina and/or vulva of a woman. A vaginitis test is, therefore, a test to help diagnose these infections and/or infections. The infections can be caused by bacteria, yeast, or even virus and show symptoms such as a painful and burning sensation while urinating, itching or swelling outside the vagina, painful intercourse, or a foul-smelling vaginal discharge.

The test is essentially a swab test that collects your vaginal discharged on a swab which is then examine under a microscope. Although it might be bit uncomfortable, but it is not painful and usually done in about 10 minutes. You would be advised to avoid douching and having intercourse for at least 24 hours before the exam. Depending on your results, you might be prescribed an oral medication or creams by your medical practitioner. After the test, you can resume your daily activities as before.
