Cerebellar ataxia, as the name suggests, originates in the cerebellum. It can be both acute, and chronic in nature. The cerebellum can be damaged due to a variety of reasons including infections, bleeding, tumours, direct injury, infraction, genetic disorders, multiple sclerosis to name a few. Such damage often leads to problems in walking with an unsteady walk, problems with speech, eye-movements, difficulty in other motor skills like eating, swallowing, combined with the inability to perform simple tasks like buttoning a shirt or writing with a steady movement.
