Donovanosis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by bacterium Klebsiella granulomatis. This disease is spread through vaginal or anal intercourse. More than 100 cases are found in the united states per year as well as it is found in southeast India and Guyana.

  • Symptoms: – Laceration in the anal area, beefy red bumps appear around the anus, painless velvety nodules that can bleed easily when get injured. It may destroy genital tissue. Tissue damage may spread to the groin. Genital skin loose skin color.
  • Diagnosis: – a culture of a tissue sample, a biopsy of the lesion, laboratory test.
  • Treatment:-Long term use of antibiotics like azithromycin, doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole help to heal the Donovanosis. Follow up is necessary to avoid reoccurrence of the disease.
