Corneal transplant is carried out by surgical procedure. In this procedure part of cornea is replaced with the corneal tissue obtained from donor. Corneal transplant help to reduced pain and improve the vision of patient. Cornea protects the eyes from dirt, germs, and other foreign particles as well as UV light.

  • Symptoms: – If patient shows symptoms like eye pain, blurred vision or cloudy vision may need replacement of cornea. Also Keratoconus condition, eye infection, earlier eye surgeries may needs corneal transplant.
  • Procedure: – Before starting the procedure doctor examine eye condition and eyes measurement for finding the correct donor. If patient have any other problems related with eyes are get cure before the transplant. Doctor gives sedative and local anesthetic to the patient. Then surgeon cut entire part of abnormal cornea and then removes button size corneal tissue. The donor cornea is placed in the circular cuts made by instrument. After placement surgeon stitches new cornea by using fine thread. Some time artificial cornea is used instead of donor cornea.
