Endometrial biopsy is the process use to identify the problems in the uterus. Uterus is the pear shape organ located in the lower belly. Endometrial biopsy is conducted when Pap test shows that presence of precancerous cells in the uterus. Endometrial biopsy is carried out when patient shows the following symptoms.
- Symptoms: – Heavy or irregular period, bleeding after menopause, bleeding cause due to anticancer drugs like tamoxifen, thick uterine line. Also endometrial biopsy is carried out for the evaluation of infertility.
- Procedure: – Endometrial biopsy is may conducted without using anesthesia using a pain reliever before 30 of the procedure. It is less than 20 minute procedure. Physician ask patient to lie down on table with feet resting on the stirrups and the he insert speculum into vagina. Then she cleans the cervix and num the area with special spray or medicine injection. Physician insert very thin and flexible tool for collection of sample from endometrial lining present in uterus.
- Risk: – Endometrial biopsy is painful procedure. It may cause uterine bleeding or infection. The endometrial biopsy may cause miscarriage.
