Erythema or skin redness is due to hyperemia in superficial capillaries that is associated with injury, inflammation and infection.

Sunburn or solar radiation,
Photosensitization,
Acute radiation syndrome,
Mercury toxicity,
Blister agents,
Niacin administration,
Waxing and tweezing of then hairs
Exposure to ionizing radiation during radiotherapy also results in erythema.
It usually goes away in a few weeks on its own. However, medications like corticosteroids, antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are often prescribed if the condition persists for long.
