Fetal ultrasound technique is a technique used to take images of fetus in uterus by the help of ultrasound. Fetal ultrasound is a good technique for detection of fetal growth and abnormalities. First Fetal ultrasound is carried out in first trimester for the confirmation of pregnancy and second in second trimester to study the fetal growth. Fetal ultrasound is carried out by following two methods.
- Transvaginal ultrasound: – In this type of ultrasound transducer is placed in the vagina to send the sound wave and reflections. Transvaginal ultrasound is used in early pregnancy.
- Transabdominal ultrasound: – Transabdominal ultrasound is carried out by moving transducer over abdomen. Different types of Transabdominal ultrasounds are available. Followings are the types of Transabdominal ultrasound.
- Specializes sonographic evaluation: – Specialized sonographic evaluation is carried out when fetal having known abnormalities. This method is useful to get more information about fetal abnormalities.
- Three-dimensional ultrasound: – Three-dimensional ultrasound is useful for identification of facial abnormalities and neural tube defects.
- Doppler ultrasound: – Doppler ultrasound is helpful to identify abnormalities of blood cells of fetus.
- Fetal echocardiography: – Fetal echocardiography is useful for study of fetus heart. It is helpful method for diagnosis of congenital heart defect.
