Admin_NHT Staff asked 6 years ago Myelography is a procedure in which contrast material is inserted in the spinal cord, nerve root, meninges by using fluoroscopy. It is helpful process for diagnosis of abnormalities. For the better and clear views anatomy and abnormalities CT scan is used with Myelogram.
Uses: – Myelogram is used for those patients, who are not able to do Myelogram because of cardiac pacemaker. Myelogram is useful for the detection of intervertebral disc herniation, bone degeneration, abnormal tissue enlargement due to osteophytes, tumors present in spinal bone, meninges, nerve root or spinal cord, infection involved in spinal reason, or inflammation in the arachnoid membrane.
Procedure: – Specialist must have given all information about procedure to the patient. Patient must have to tell all allergic conditions and medical history to the patient. If patient taking antipsychotic medication, antidepressants, blood thinner like drug, it need to stop taking before two to three days of procedure. Iodinated contrast material used as a contrast material, patient must give knowledge about allergic reaction of contrast material to the specialist. Patient asks to wear hospital gown and remove all metallic accessories. If Pregnancy is susceptiblewomen must have to give knowledge to the specialist. Specialist asks to lie face down on examination table. Specialist used fluoroscope which shows the images in monitor. Contrast material is used in lower lumbar region. For the injection of contrast skin is clean and local anesthesia is given to lumbar region. Patient asks to sit in prone position. Then contrast material is injected through needle and then removed and clean the needle. By using fluoroscopic guidance radiologist track the contrast material, and take X-ray images. CT scan is performed immediately after Myelogram if required. All process is carried out within one to two hours.
