Percutaneous Transhepatic chaolangiography is also known as PTC. It is radiographic technique use to evaluate the billiary tree. PTC is performed when MRCP, ERCP, CT, IVC shows unsatisfactory results. It is used when patient is not able to conduct ERCP because of medical condition. It is helpful to identify the cause of jaundice, anatomical evaluation of ERCP/ billiary stent placement and stone removal.

  • Procedure: – Before starting the procedure the physician must have to study patient history and conduct the liver function test and baseline blood investigations. The procedure is carried out by using local anesthesia. The IV cannula is placed for the maintenance of vascular access. Ultrasound guidance is used in the procedure for guidance. The small needle is placed in the body from the fixed entry point. After removing the needle stylet the small amount of contrast is injected for the confirmation of puncture in the fluoroscopy. When needle is placed into the final target the remaining contrast material is injected and various projection of billiary tree is obtained. After procedure patient may shows complication like bile leak, bleeding or cholangitis.
