Transvaginal ultrasound pap test is useful test for identification of cervical cancer. This test collects cells from lower narrow end of uterus at top of the vagina. Papanicolaou smear test is useful for the early detection of cervical cancer. Doctors recommended Pap testing in every three years for women ages 20 to 65.
Uses: – Papanicolaou test is useful in the diagnosis of cervical cancer, exposure to diethylstilbestrol in fetus, HIV infection. Doctors also suggest pap test if Patient having weak immune system due to organ transplant, chemotherapy, chronic corticosteroid use or smocking history.
Procedure: – Doctor suggests avoiding intercourse, use of vaginal medicine, spermicidal foams, creams or jellies. Doctor asks to take out cloths below waist, and lie down on the table with knee bent and heels rest in support. Then doctor insert speculum into patient vagina. Speculum holds the vaginal wall and doctor can easily see cervix. Doctor takes samples of cervical cell by using soft brush and spatula.
