Chemotherapy is a powerful treatment option advised to cancer patients by their doctors. The chemotherapeutic drugs are strong chemicals that are responsible for killing cells. The major downside of this treatment is that along with cancerous cells, healthy cells are killed as well. These drugs can be used alone or in combination with other drugs and are usually proven as effective treatment option for certain types of cancers. There are various reasons why this option is recommended by the doctors apart from cancer treatment;it can also kill any remaining cancer cells after surgery, it is given before a bone marrow transplant, and to treat an overactive immune system.
Because the drugs used in this therapy are quite strong, individuals often face rapid hair loss, muscle tissue loss, and various other physiological issues. This also takes a toll on one’s mental health. Hence, people who are advised chemotherapy are often told to take proper care of their diet and are asked not to skip any meals, they are also advised to participate in light exercise activities like taking a walk or yoga.
