Pleural fluid sampling is carried out when excessive fluid is saturated in pleural space. Saturation of fluid may be cause due to cancerous tumor, pneumonia, lung infection, chronic lung diseases or heart failure. Excessive fluid drainage is carried out in thoracentesis procedure.

Procedure: – Patient suggests stopping blood thinner medicine if he is taken. Patient must have to tell doctor about his allergic history and lung surgeries or having bleeding problem. Pregnant woman must tell about their pregnancy to doctor. Doctors suggest to patient to sit in suitable condition which allow him to access pleural space. Ultrasound is carried out to give direction to the needle. Doctor cleaned the procedure area and inject local anesthesia. Then doctor insert the needle below pleural space, and excess fluid is drain out. After fluid drained insertion site is closed with bandages. After procedure patient is put under observation for one night.
