Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is usually diagnosed when a person experiences the symptoms for at least one month after a traumatic incident. The symptoms are classified into three main types :
- Flashbacks or nightmares where you reexperience the trauma
- Feeling emotionally numb and avoid all things that remind you of the event.
- Difficulty in sleeping and concentrating, always being in a state of alertness.
A person can experience trauma in different ways like exposure to death, sexual violence, or serious injury. It is not necessary for the person to experience these themselves; it can also be considered a traumatic experience if it happens to close person. If you experience any of the symptoms mentioned above, it is advised to seek professional help from a therapist.
