Flexion can be medically defined as “ A bending movement around a joint in a limb (such as elbow or knee) which results in a decrease in the angle between the bones of the limb at the joint. ”
With your arm stretched outwards, when you bring your wrist closer to your shoulder, the movement towards the shoulder that decreases the angle at your elbow, is termed as flexion. The opposite of this movement is called extension, and it is when you increase the angle at the joint by moving your wrist away from the shoulder.
These types of movements can be found at various joints like the elbow, knee, ankle, jaw, wrist.
