Ten Ayurvedic drugs listed in Ayurveda literature to lose weight are listed below.

1) Fenugreek / Methi (Trigonella foenum-graecum)

Fenugreek or methi is considered to have several health benefits, including weight loss. It aids digestion and thus helps lose weight. Galactomannan decreases the appetite and keeps the stomach full for an extended period (Galactomannan is a water-soluble component present in fenugreek). Also, galactomannan increases the metabolic rate of the body. The methi seeds can be consumed in the form of powder or after soaking it overnight. Alternatively, you can also consume the residual water. To prepare powder, roast the seeds and crush them in a mortar and pestle. Drink some water with the powder in the morning.

2) Guggul (Commiphora Mukul)

Guggul is an age-old plant that is used in the traditional medicine system for its various therapeutic benefits, including weight loss. Guggul contains guggulsterone (steroid), which is majorly responsible for exerting the anti-obesity or weight loss effect. Therefore, guggul is known as a natural anti-obesity herb.

3) Vijaysar (Pterocarpus Marsupium)

The bark of the Vijaysar tree (deciduous tree) is used to treat diabetes and obesity. The resin and bark parts of the tree are used to keep the digestive system healthy. A decoction of vijaysar is to be administered to reduce weight.

4) Triphala

Triphala (Tri = three, phala = fruits) is a mixture of Amalaki (Phyllanthus emblica), bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), and haritaki (Terminalia chebula). All of these ingredients help to remove the toxins from the human body and rejuvenates the human digestive system. Triphala churna is advised to be taken two hours before dinner and thirty minutes before breakfast. Triphala powder is found to be useful to lose weight in obese people.

5) Punarnava (Boerrrhavia Diffusa)

Punarnava is known to have a promising and significant effect in promoting weight loss. The diuretic properties of Punarnava helps the kidney and urinary bladder to eliminate toxins from the body without any effect on the electrolyte balance in the human body. Water retention promotes weight gain; Punarnava encourages weight loss by promoting water removal and decreasing the chances of water retention. The tea of punarnava can be consumed to lose weight.

6) Dalchini / Cinnamon (Cinnamomum calisaya or Cinnamomum verum )

Cinnamon promotes the body’s metabolism, which helps to reduce body weight. Cinnamaldehyde (phenylpropanoid) promotes the metabolism of belly fat and helps to lose weight. To lose weight, a cupful of cinnamon tea to be consumed in the morning is recommended.
